Obituary of Anu Sawhney

Anu Sawhney passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at her Morristown, NJ home. She was 69 years old. Anu will be remembered as a loving mother, proud grandmother, dedicated civil servant, and loyal friend. Both her inner and outer beauty is a timeless energy that will live on through her family. She will be gravely missed.

Born in Uttar Pradesh India, she immigrated to the United States in 1976 following the birth of her first child, settling in Denville, NJ for a number of years. Subsequently in 1991 the family shifted to Mendham, NJ before moving to Morristown in 2018.

Anu earned her bachelor's degree from Loreto Convent University in Lucknow, U.P., India and continued her education in the US earning a degree in accounting and a certification in information technology.

Anu has worked with the Morris County Clerk's Office for over 30 years, most recently serving as the office's Systems Analyst. Anu was a creative in the kitchen and an avid health enthusiast. She also enjoyed regular Friday night sleepovers with her 3 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Dulari L. Sawhney in 2020, and both parents, Laxmi Chand Kohli and Kamlesh Kohli, and eldest brother Deep Chand Kohli. Anu was one of six children and predeceased her sisters Chanda Suri of New Zealand, Vinod Bhasin of India, Poonam Chadha of Canada, as well as her brother Dr. Chander Mohan Kohli of India.

Survivors also include her cherished son, Paras Sawhney of Morris Plains, NJ; her adoring daughter, Mille Sawhney and her husband, John MacGregor of Chatham, NJ; and three grandchildren, Rooney John, Nora Anu, and Dulari "Rae" MacGregor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Puja Funeral Services on Sunday, September 22, 2024, 10:00am located at the Rosedale Crematory Chapel, 408 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ. Cremation will immediately follow.
