Obituary of Sr. June Morrissey, SC

Sister June Morrissey, 80, (formerly Sister William Josephine), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died May 2, 2024, at Complete Care at Saint Vincent’s, Cedar Grove, NJ.

Sister June was born in Rochester, New York, the daughter of William and Josephine (Chiariello) Morrissey. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1961, and was a member for 62 years.

Sister June graduated from the College (University) of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut with an M.A. degree in Education.

Sister June had a great love for children; she served in the ministry of education for more than 50 years. Sister June was a teacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Washington Township, NJ and Saint Michael School, Newark, NJ, prior to serving as principal at Assumption School, Morristown, NJ, and Saint Pius X School, Montville, NJ.

Following her years in the ministry of education, Sister June served as Director of Volunteers at Saint Joseph Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Grove, NJ and as a staff member at the Foundation of Saint Joseph’s Health in Paterson, NJ.

Sister June was thoughtful and generous, and she had a special gift for remembering people and names. She was a creative administrator who was always supportive of the teachers and families in her school community.

Sister June was predeceased by her parents, her brother William, and her sister-in-law Eileen. She is survived by her Sister of Charity community, her nephews William (Dana), Joseph (Ellen) and Kevin (Meghan) and her niece Ashley Robertson (Tad) as well as three grandnieces and four grandnephews.

The wake for Sister June Morrissey will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station will follow the mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stephen J. Priola Funeral Service, Lake Hiawatha, NJ.
