Obituary of Shakuntala Prasad

Shakuntala Prasad (nee Ram) passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 11, 2024 at her Rockaway Township, NJ home surrounded by her loving family. She had celebrated her 90th Birthday one day earlier.

Born in Sasaram, Bihar, India, Mrs. Prasad immigrated to the United States with her three young children in 1967 to join her husband, the late Dr. Jogendra Prasad, settling in Ancora, NJ. The couple had lived in Trenton, NJ until his death in 1999, at which time she moved to Rockaway Township, NJ to be closer to her son and his family.

A homemaker, Mrs. Prasad was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, cooking and hosting her family and friends.

In addition to her husband Dr. Jogendra Prasad; she was preceded in death by 7 siblings, Raj Kishore, Vidhya, Dharamveer, Indu, Pushpa, Arun, and her infant twin sister.

She is survived by her three beloved children, Dr. Sushma Verma of Fayetteville, NY, Shail Prasad and his wife, Angela of Denville, NJ, and Dr. Sadhana Prasad and her husband, Dr. Leigh Philbrick of North Yarmouth, ME; two dear siblings, Veena Devi and Kiran Gupta; nine beloved grandchildren, Dr. Bianca A. Allison, Dr. Shawn Sunil Verma, Sasha Prasad, Kendra Prasad, Miranda Prasad, Victoria Prasad, Ian Prasad Philbrick, Maya Philbrick, and Jay Philbrick; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Cora J. Allison, Jamie S. Allison, and Ryan E. Allison.

A private family Puja Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday morning, April 13, 2024, 8:30am until 10:00am at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service. Cremation at 10:30am at East Ridgelawn Crematory, Clifton, NJ.
