Obituary of Marie Loffredo
Marie Loffredo, a lifelong resident of Orange, passed away peacefully on April 10th, with
her dear sisters, nieces, nephew and great niece by her side.
Born in Orange to the late Samuel and Theresa Loffredo, Marie was one of six children and remained in the community she loved throughout her life. She graduated from Orange High School and went on to spend many years of service as a clerk at Orange City Hall. She was a social woman and enjoyed the friendships she made along the way.
Marie was a familiar presence, often seen sitting on her front porch, greeting all who passed by. She lived in her childhood home until the age of 89, when she moved closer to family, who lovingly cared for her just as she had always cared for them. Though she never married or had children of her own, she was a devoted and constant presence in the lives of her nieces, nephews and great nieces, who returned that love wholeheartedly.
A devout Catholic, Marie was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Orange. She loved flowers, spending time with a good book, listening to old time music and cooking meals, with pizza being a favorite to make for her family.
Marie was predeceased by her parents; as well as her siblings Samuel “Chicky” Loffredo III, Catherine Giordano and Ann “Annie” Loffredo; her nieces Michelle Gengaro and Terry Loffredo; and her nephew James C. DeZao IV.
She is survived by her sisters Concetta “Connie” Gengaro and Barbara “Bobbie” DeZao; many dear nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and dear friends and caretakers.
Her family will gather privately on Thursday before she is laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover in the Loffredo family plot.
Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
